Dude, I took classes on these subjects, and after months of intensive study, I’m no closer to answering some of these questions. You could literally have a college degree based around the concept of ethical technological development.

I do highly recommend that you take the self-guided tour of Eco-Village, though. Simply designing a house correctly can reduce energy usage by 90% – I’m quite fine with practically any means of generating electricity. The larger problem seems to be the ridiculous amount of energy that is wasted due entirely to poor design. There should be massive amounts of laws that prevent wasting energy, rather than restricting its generation.

1. How do we get free energy without waste? Solar panels and wind turbines still produce waste and pollution when they are manufactured, especially if you consider the manufacture of all the plastics, metals, and chemicals required.

2. We aren’t using alternate power sources for two reasons. The primary reason is that burning brown stuff that comes out of the ground in huge amounts is cheaper, and people like to spend as little as possible to travel or heat their homes. The second reason is that there are massive amounts of laws interfering with the business of power generation.

3. How do you know what the “correct” advancement might be, and how does one figure out what the “proper” usage of technology is? Every piece of technology that has been created and sold was judged to be “proper and correct” by the person or people that purchased it, no? If you don’t agree with them, how do you know that you’re correct?
